Veterinary Referrals

I work alongside veterinary practices across Norfolk, providing individual behavioural assessments and support for dogs experiencing a range of behavioural difficulties.

As an INTODogs Accredited Canine Behaviourist (ACB-KSA), Professional Canine Trainer (PCT-A) and member of the UK Dog Behaviour & Training Charter, I consider physical health, pain and other medical factors as part of my behavioural assessments. I've also completed Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) Advocate Level 1 training, building on my understanding of how chronic pain can affect a dog's behaviour and wellbeing.

Veterinary referrals help ensure that behavioural support forms part of a joined-up approach to each dog's welfare.

When Pain and Behaviour Overlap

Recognising the possible relationship between pain and behaviour is particularly important to me, both professionally and through my experiences with my own dogs.

Granta Veterinary Specialists recently featured the stories of my three dogs, Doug, Rosie and Bill, on their Lower Back Pain Clinic webpage. Their very different experiences highlight the importance of recognising subtle behavioural and physical changes, and the value of ongoing veterinary investigation when the cause isn't immediately clear.

Veterinary Referral Process

Veterinary practices can refer dogs for behavioural assessment and support using the referral form below.

Please complete the form and return it by email, together with any relevant clinical history. This helps me understand the dog's medical background, including any existing conditions, medication or investigations that may be relevant to their behaviour.

Where appropriate, and with the owner's consent, I liaise with the referring veterinary practice if concerns arise that may warrant further investigation or veterinary input.

Owners are welcome to contact me before or after a referral to discuss the support available. All consultations are subject to availability.

Pet Insurance

Some pet insurance policies cover behavioural consultations, although eligibility and requirements vary between insurers.

If you intend to make a claim, please check with your insurance provider before booking to confirm that behavioural support is covered and that my professional qualifications and accreditations meet their requirements.

Veterinary referral documentation may be required to support a claim.
